Professional Formatting

Hi! I'm Coyote and I'd love to format your story into a print-ready paperback. As an indie author myself, I know how typesetting can make or break the success of a novel. Please check out my portfolio below and let me know what you like the look of. If you like what you see, but you're not sure if I can work with what you have in mind, feel free to email me for a consultation.

The Targaryan King

Fanfiction is often not taken seriously in literary communities, but this author worked very hard on their 130k-word beauty and I intended to give it the layout it deserved. On the top, you can see the manuscript as it was given to me, and on the bottom, the file that was sent to the client.Priestess_of_Groove contacted me looking for well-formatted PDF of their Game of Thrones fanfiction to share with their readers. Though I'm not familiar with Game of Thrones, I was able to find a font that matches the title sequence in the TV show. The font file didn't come with numbers or punctuation, but a little improvisation with a matching font and some kerning adjustments did the trick. I created a mock-up of the chapter title pages and sent it to the author for approval. Once they'd given me the thumbs-up, I formatted all the chapter title pages the same way, checking for any spacing or punctuation issues. Each chapter is marked with the POV character and a number indicating how many chapters they've been the POV for. It was important to me to preserve these, both for the reader's benefit and to honor the author's artistic choice. I designed these (in the image, the text that reads "Jon I") to be stylistically compatible with the chapter titles and also suitable for use when the POV character changes in the middle of a chapter. After combing through all 130,000 words for visual errors that would distract the reader, I put together a clickable table of contents, matched it to the rest of the book's style, and sent two versions to the client: one optimized for reading on digital devices, and one ready to be send to the printers for binding if the author should choose to do so.(Many thanks to the client for allowing me to share a portion of their manuscript in my portfolio!)

Coffee, Milk & Spider Silk

This story gave me a little bit of difficulty - there were widows galore, and frequently the text didn't reach the end of the page. I went through the whole thing, line by line, until all the software errors were gone. The result is clean, focused, and ready to print.

Other Examples

Here I've thrown together some designs for books that don't exist yet! If you see one you like, let me know and it can be yours.
